"Special Songs for Special Times" by Rose Augustine (Spiritual Artist from Minnesota(MN))

"Special Songs for Special Times" is the most recent release from Rose Augustine. It is an album in which Rose is accompanied by various talented vocalists, and features songs that mainly focus on the interplay of vocals and gentle piano playing. It, like the titles implies is an album that is meant to be both a celebration of the Christian faith and of the special moments that occur within one's life. In "With This Ring, I Thee Wed" we hear Rose's soaring voice alongside soothing piano playing, in a song that celebrates the act of marriage. For "Alleuia, He Is Risen" one encounters Rose singing along side other vocalists in a more upbeat and inspiring tune that is in reverence of the sacrifice of Jesus. "Memories of Auld Lang Syne" is a slower piece in which Rose thinks out loud about spending New Year's Eve with her loved one. This album is perfect for anyone who enjoys talented, yet soothing music that springs from a Christian faith and a love of the important moments in our lives.

"Golden Bowl Of Naam" by Megan Chaskey (Spiritual Artist from Long Island, New York(NY))

Megan Chaskey's commitment to the healing and regenerative powers of music and prayer imbue her latest CD, "Golden Bowl Of Naam," with the kind of deep spirituality one can only find within. With the backing of natural, acoustic instrumentation (from piano to flute to percussion instruments, and more), Chaskey's improvised vocal melodies, intoned in ancient mantras and sacred texts, create New Age soundscapes that are both relaxing and harmonically rich. For instance, on the 30-minute tone poem-like, "Ra Ma Da Sa II," Chaskey's solemn recorder explores melody over a traditional drone, creating an Eastern-like ambience that's reflective and calming, and yet no less inspiring. Over 70 minutes in length, Megan Chaskey's 4-track "Golden Bowl Of Naam" CD is the perfect accompaniment to a yoga session, a meditative reverie, or to provide musical channels for communion with nature's most elusive impulses.

"Transformations" by David C Deal (Spiritual/Rock Artist from Ohio(OH))

David C Deal's latest album, "Transformations," uses a beautiful blending of genres in an attempt to give his audience an inspirational and uplifting musical experience. This record is produced song to song; some tunes are Jazzy, some are Rock songs and still others are Broadway-like ballads. The opening track, "Graceful," is an uplifting, instrumented song that centers on an alluring flute playing a melodic melody. On the song, "First Contact" we hear Deal discuss his feelings about God over an energetic, guitar-lead, Rock ballad featuring a string section. Then, on "Flowing Deep In The Night" we encounter a slow moving Jazz song placed behind the vocals of a talented female singer. So while Deal may jump from musical genre to musical genre within "Transformations," the album is held together by his goal of addressing life's largest issue while being uplifting and motivating. Check out this album if you enjoy music that tries to take on intense and deep issues or if you would like to hear how one man can express himself in various musical styles.

"The Grace of God" by Paul T. (World Artist from Tennessee(TN))

"The Grace of God" by Paul T. puts a new and palatable spin on spiritual music. Wrapping the traditional message of Christianity in the uncommonly delightful sounds of African/world compositions, Paul brings something fresh to fans of gospel and contemporary Christian music. Paul's smooth timbre creates vocal performances that leave lasting emotional impressions. The riveting "Don't Listen" takes on the sounds of more conventional contemporary Christian music, consummated by heavenly female chorus background vocals. "Come On" is representative of the overall upbeat, energetic vibe of the record. Moreover, "Woza[come]" takes on a very soulful edge, and illuminates Paul's ability to craft poignant poetic lyrics. Fans of spiritual and world tunes will find enlightenment in this heartfelt collection.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Harry Smyer with a GrIndie Award for the CD "In Season Songs for the Sin Sick Soul"

Harry Smyer is a talent that we hope will be heard by the whole world soon enough. His record, "In Season Songs for the Sin Sick Soul," is a tasty mix of 50's soul and southern gospel. Although each song is spiritually themed, this shouldn't stop you from giving this record a good chance if that genre isn't your thing. Smyer's vocals are steeped in the sounds of Sam & Dave or Eddie Kendricks, which is no easy feat. Whether it's "Walk Around Heaven All Day" or "I Got Something Within Me," Smyer consistently delivers a fine performance and will make you wish he was preaching down the street from your house. There is also a beautiful classic gospel cover, "Just a Closer Walk With Thee," which he eloquently puts his own stamp on. Be sure to give a good listen to the fine guitar playing on this record which is very James Burton-esque. Whether you're a gospel fan or just looking for some good soul music, Harry Smyer and his album, "In Season Songs for the Sin Sick Soul," is the way to go.

"Diaspora" by Steve Lieberman the Gangsta Rabbi (Rock Artist from Long Island, New York(NY))

Raw and untamed, Steve Lieberman the Gangsta Rabbi's "Diaspora" CD is a challenging blast of noise-rock incitement as discordant and disjointed as it is unsettling. Like the late Wesley Willis, Lieberman – a one man sonic wrecking crew, shuns form and convention over the course of 18 tracks that, instead, rely on shock and awe bursts of scorching bass licks and howls of reverent fury to trace a Judaic arc from pre-Biblical times to the 21st century. With a voice that is both tormented and impenetrable, Lieberman sings of his Jewish heritage and faith with an atonal swagger that matches his frenzied grooves beat for beat. And while the whole may add up to a strained musicality (which, as fans of Sonic Youth might attest, can be an art form in itself), there is no denying that the multi-instrumentalist's dissonance (check out the frequent and jarring Jethro Tull-like flute interpolations) is neither accidental nor unschooled. Certainly not for everyone, Steve Lieberman the Gangsta Rabbi's "Diaspora" CD is, nevertheless, genuine and purposed; to that extent, "Diaspora" is no less than a work of self-actualization.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Joshua Mills with a GrIndie Award for the CD "SpiritSpa"

The piano is undoubtedly one of the most soothing instruments to calm one's nerves and musician Joshua Mills knows exactly how to do the job. His latest album of elegant piano compositions, "SpiritSpa," is not only delicate and dreamy but also a collection of wonderful piano ballads. The title says it all as this music does in fact belong in every spa across the country. His opening track, "Peaceful Soak," wraps you in beautifully written melodies very reminiscent of Billy Joel's latest work. "Ascending & Descending" is a bit darker than the rest of the album, but gives us something to listen to on one of those off days when we are all a little frustrated and need that one song that describes our day. Mills was also creative in the song names he chose as they very much reflect the ambiance of this album: "Glorious Horizon," "Fly," "Fragrant Oil," and "Heaven's Delight." Whether you just want to relax or hear some magnificent piano playing that soothes your body and soul, then "SpiritSpa" is for you.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Connie Strange with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Fire…Brimstone & Love"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Connie Strange with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Fire…Brimstone & Love"

Vocalist Connie Strange whips up a fantastic album, filled with gospel, blues, country, and even the slightest touch of jazz in her newest effort, "Fire…Brimstone & Love." The lead off track states what the entire CD has to offer with "He Said," an eclectic mix of blues and gospel spreading the word of God. Strange wasn't being clever when she named the disc "Fire…Brimstone & Love" for no reason. Although most of the songs are upbeat with a faith based message, tracks like "Are You Ready" talk about death and when the time comes, He will take you away… that is, if you are ready. A hidden gem on this album is Strange's cover of Louie Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World." We have all heard this done by so many, but Strange throw hers country/gospel flare into the mix and creates a great atmosphere with a song that could have easily fallen flat amongst a million other versions floating around in record stores. Gospel and country music fanatics will really enjoy "Fire…Brimstone & Love" and it may just get you to church on Sunday!

RadioIndy is pleased to present Swaha with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Bolo!"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Swaha with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Bolo!"

Did you ever just want to pop in a relaxing CD at the end of a long day? If so, Swaha's newest CD "Bolo!" is a great choice to soothe your soul. Taking hints of Indian mantras and spiritual music, Swaha does a magnificent job with their newest disc. Vocalists Dave Stringer and Tara MacLean serve up some excellent performances on this CD. The balance of Dave's vocal tone with Tara's angelic pitch is easy on any listener's ears. As for the music, the raga flare sets the mood for some beautiful sounds on songs like "Shiva Manas Puja" and "Jaya Ram Shri Ram." Another great feature of "Bolo!" is the pop sound that is delivered on many of the songs including "Govinda Gopala." Swaha has taken the mantra/Indian genres to a whole different level, fusing India's musical roots with traditional pop instrumentation. "Bolo!" is a perfect listen for anyone who enjoys Indian music fused with spiritual and uplifting textures.

"Distant Thunder" by Karl Stephen Brunig (Spiritual Artist from Texas(TX))

Karl Stephen Brunig reaches well beyond the roots of Gospel music with his latest album of finely written songs on "Distant Thunder." Brunig has taken the traditional style of Gospel music and has spun a new twist with the genres of rock and blues with inspirational appeal. The lyrics and artistic arrangements will move you with uplifting attraction. The title track "Distant Thunder" kicks off the album with driving beats and edgy guitar riffs. Brunig's vocals are quite similar to Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen as you can hear on songs such as "Hiding Place" or "Nehemiah Man." Taking the tempo down a bit to more of easy listening tempo, "What a Beautiful You" and "Silent Tears" are nicely performed with a sweet piano accompaniment. This album offers a selection of tempos and styles that draws you into wanting to hear more. Karl Stephen Brunig's "Distant Thunder" is an enjoyable gospel album and will charm listeners who like more of a rock/blues feel.

"Songs of Ascent" by Ellen M. Wilson (Spiritual Artist from Texas(TX))

Metrical Middle Eastern melodies and rich vocals are what Ellen M. Wilson finely crafts on her disc, "Songs of Ascent." Wilson has a sweet and rich voice that brings the listener to a relaxing frame of mind. As you listen to the first track, "Modah Ani," a sense of serenity fills the air with attributes not only from the vocals but the instruments as well. Another song, "Lo Yisa Goy," is complemented with an array of soothing instrumentation and once again the vocals are clean, crisp, and emotive. Not only is the piano gracefully accompanying the lead vocals on "Pitchu Li," but the harmonies are smooth and elegant adding to the ambiance of this beautiful song. Although most songs are sung in the Hebrew language, Wilson gives an exquisite performance while singing in English on "Healing Song," with lyrics that are sung from the heart. The Hebrew melodies of Ellen M. Wilson's "Songs of Ascent" are a wonderful compilation of spiritual music that will uplift your inner being and will leave you with a sense of total tranquility.
